Values and Vision
Our major is the most popular at Washington College. About one in six students who graduate from the college earn a degree in Business Management. Why do so many students want to study with us?
Well, we do a great job preparing you for a successful career. And we have great teachers who really care about students. But most important of all, we think, are our values and our vision: what we think matters in a good business education, and what our ideal future identity is for our graduates.
We never forget we're part of a liberal arts college. To us, that means we stress individual development, independent thinking, fearless inquiry, and imagination. We build our program around five liberal-arts values:
1. Critical thinking
Good at answers? Great. But are you good at questions?
2. Communication
It doesn't matter what you know if you can't share it.
3. Global imagination
What happens in Vegas (or Vienna or Vietnam) doesn't really stay there anymore. Business is global, and you have to have a global mindset to succeed.
4. Integrity
Do you want to do things right? Great, we can help you learn how—but we'll also help you do the right things.
5. Action
You don't learn lacrosse just by reading about it. You've got to play. Our students learn the world of business by jumping in—into internships, research and real-world investment decisions.
Our vision can be summed up like this: Business Management is an active liberal art. Our graduates embark on their careers with skills, confidence, and curiosity.
